June Social Peer Support

As summer draws closer, the evenings get lighter and the weather warmer we are encouraging members to join us out and about at Park Life, City Walkers, Fitness Friends and Growing Minds. There’s lots of opportunities in June to find a gentle and relaxing physical activity that works for you, check out the Keep Active meet ups on page 4-5. It’s quick and simple to join West London Friends in Need (FiN), find out on page 15 if you’re eligible to attend. Each month there is a huge range of regular meet ups, one off special events and workshops that take place across Kensington and Chelsea, Queen’s Park and Paddington to support and improve your mental health. If you’re new to Friends in Need why not come along to our monthly coffee meet up (page 2), specially for new and recently joined members. This June we’re also asking you to get involved in promoting Friends in Need to your communities. When collecting your edition of the newsletter from a meet up or from the Kensington and Chelsea Mind office, could you take a few extra to drop off at your local GP surgery, friendly pharmacy or community centre? Comedy for Depression

A host of comedians will be coming together for a night of live comedy to raise money and awareness for mental health. With Tom Allen as compere, Felicity Ward, Suzi Ruffell, Luisa Omielan will take to the stage alongside Alistair Williams, John Robertson and Jonny Pelham. Comedy for Depression will take place at London’s iconic Union Chapel in Islington on Thursday 4 May 2017. The proceeds from the evening will go to mental health charity, Mind. One in six people will experience depression during their lifetime. By 2020 depression is estimated to become the second leading cause of health problems in the world. Money raised by Comedy for Depression will go to Mind’s Friends in Need project, a free and supportive community for everyone affected by depression, so they don’t have to go through it alone. People can find new friends in their local area and online, so they will always have a safe and friendly space when they need it most. Friends in Need March Meet Up

If you are affected by depression, anxiety or other mental health problem then you might be interested in joining West London Friends in Need. Friends in Need is a way for people to meet online and in their local area. It’s free to join and a great way to share support…. Friends in Need is a peer to peer social support and wellbeing community for people affected by depression and other mental health problems. As you’ll see from reading through this March edition of the newsletter, there are approximately 60 meet ups taking place each month where you can meet people with similar interests and be connected with people in your area. If there are any meet ups you are interested in attending and you haven’t been to any before, then please let us know so we can contact you get you signed up and then meet you before the meet up. Friends in Need December Meet Ups

Join us this December as Friends in Need celebrates the end of 2016 at the Piano Bar on Friday 30th December.  In West London you’ll find a friendly and welcoming community of people who all know what’s it’s like to struggle with a mental health difficulty. Friends in Need October Meet Ups

Many of us have been affected by depression, anxiety or mental distress. And many of us have found it difficult to talk to others about how we feel. Friends in Need gives people the opportunity to connect with others who understand. In West London you’ll find a friendly and welcoming community of people who all know what’s it’s like to struggle with a mental health difficulty. There are a variety of about 50 different meet ups taking place throughout the week from trips to the V&A, walks along the river, pub quizzes and coffee evenings. Look at the newsletter below to see if there is anything you’d like to attend. It’s free to join our Friends in Need group. There’s no pressure to come along to anything and no medical questions to answer. If you feel lonely or isolated and would like to connect, learn, share and give to others then come and join us.
